Masakhane News nr. 6 - October 2009

Masakhane Newsletter nr. 6 15 October 2009

ABI visits Masakhane
On 13 October a group of four women visited Masakhane.
The teachers and the children at the creche were delighted to show off their hand-painted t-shirts and to present the visitors each with their own t-shirt. Monica Narsee and Kobie Heyman were welcomed back to the settlement while Kathy Ustus and Isabel Pimental had to 'rub thumbs' in the well-known South African gesture of 'All is Well' with nearly all of the little ones! Women's Project forging ahead
Women in Masakhane learn new skills
The Women's Project, which is funded by ABI is moving full-steam ahead under the guidance of Village Power Volunteer, Su West. The group has completed sewing matresses and blankets for the creche and have learnt to crochet. Read more about this project at http://adultdevelopmentatmasakhane.blogspot.com

Building of Community Centre to begin soon.
Preperation phase completed
After a lengthy process of refining building plans, securing a suitable contractor and submitting plans, Village Power has obtained from local government the go-ahead to start building immedeately.

The building site will be leveled by local goverment and the contractors aim to start construction in the first week of November. Funding for this project has been made available by SABMiller. Life Skills training, HIV training and counselling and Vocational Skills training are but a few of the benefits which this centre will bring to this community. On behalf of the Masakhane community, Village Power would like to thank SABMiller for their support and Architect Paul Sheridan for his selfless efforts in making sure that plans were ready to be submitted.

Village Power is a registered non-profit organisation (section 21 company). Profiles of facilitators can be viewed at:
